CLIENT

Our client is an Australian government statutory authority based in Canberra. It applies scientific expertise to evaluate and register all pesticides and veterinary medicines, support Australian agricultural and livestock industries and protect the health and safety of people, animals, the environment and Australia’s overseas trade.

 

THE ROLE

Our client has two senior Technical Writer/Editor positions available in their Knowledge Management team. Technical Writer positions will involve editing of instructional material to ensure documents are clear, logical and accessible and meet departmental and government writing standards at the APS6 level.

The successful candidate will work with subject matter experts of the existing team to draft and create content for procedures to be used as a part of their Quality Assurance system.

The roles are to commence as soon as possible and will be based in Canberra. Contracts will conclude at Christmas 2018 with possibility for extension for 2019.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

We are looking for candidates who have excellent writing skills and the ability to manage their time well. You will work with other professionals and as such you must be a good team player and have strong liaison skills.

Knowledge of the science and the regulatory requirements enforced by this agency would be extremely beneficial but not a must.

Other requirements for this role include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Science or a relevant field.
  • Proven experience in scientific or technical writing would be well regarded
  • Ability to make workload decisions, work with various stakeholders and meet own deadlines
  • Assisting authors and reviewers in the use of workflows for the development, authorisation and publication of instructional material.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and management of the section as required, providing reviews of policies, processes and procedures for the development and publication of instructional material.
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills, ability to work as part of a team and autonomously as needed
  • Excellent computer skills and a good eye for detail
  • A high level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills that can be applied to the preparation of a range of written documents
  • Work rights in Australia but you are NOT required to be a citizen. You must also be willing to undergo a police check.
  • Must be available to commence employment with reasonable notice and work full-time hours Monday to Friday for two to three months.
