Our client is a proudly Australian owned and managed company that has been in operation for over 66 years. Starting as a Specialty Industrial Coatings manufacturer, they have maintained a vision for the future and have diversified into a broad range of quality coatings for the Architectural, Signwriting, Industrial and Digital Industries.

Operating out of new premises in Melbourne’s North-West, our client now requires an innovative Technical Operations Specialist to maintain the Company at the forefront of technology and lead them into the next generation of products.



This managerial role is a great opportunity for an experienced professional who has a passion for new technology and possesses great leadership skills, a proven number of years of experience with surface coatings including product formulation and development, product application, and product manufacturing.

The successful candidate will have the responsibility for the Operations Department including raw material and supplier management, supervision of manufacturing and quality control of manufactured batches.

Other duties in this role include product innovation while collaborating with the internal Marketing and Sale team to assist with identifying viable opportunities in the market. Additionally, as a technical expert, you will be the point of contact for complex technical issues for new and existing clients.



  • Manage Operations Department including product manufacturing, purchasing of raw materials, assessment of new raw materials and quality control of manufactured products
  • Lead the Operations Team of 4 staff and manage their performance
  • Become a technical point of contact to deal with technical issues both internally and from external clients
  • Attend to customer complaints and resolve technical issues
  • Understand the commercial aspects associated with business especially in respect to developing and reformulating products
  • Explore the newest technologies available on the market and lead the development of new products



To be considered for this role, applicants will need to substantiate how they meet the following criteria:

  • Have tertiary qualifications in Chemistry, Materials or Surface Coatings
  • Proven experience with formulations in surface coatings including both product development and reformulation
  • Strong knowledge of formulating water-based paint systems
  • Be experienced in being the “first point of call” when dealing with customer issues whether they be a complaint or the need for new or specialised products
  • Experience in product manufacturing is desirable
  • Previous experience with people management in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
  • Have excellent time management skills to deal with different ongoing projects and running of operations
  • Have well-developed problem-solving skills to deal with both internal and external issues as they arise
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to assist you in dealing with a diverse range of clients.
