Our client is a national supplier, service provider and project delivery business, supporting clients in all facets of their project lifecycle. Their road construction business is one of the largest non-government owned road services business in Australia.

Their Asphalt Laboratory is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Technical Officer to assist in conducting quality control testing of Asphalt products and to assist in the development of new ones.



Due to growth, our client is currently seeking to employ a graduate Chemical or Materials Engineer, or Chemist, to assist with the QC and R&D or asphalt / bituminous products. Experience would be highly regarded but not essential as they are willing to train the right person.

Some of the duties will include:

  • The testing of asphalt, quarry aggregate, sand and other raw materials
  • Determination of air voids through testing the maximum density and bulk density
  • Percentage of bitumen and particle size distribution by solvent extraction under pressure, and indirect modulus test with the use of a UTM
  • Compaction testing on asphalt
  • Performance testing of asphalt as part of improvement initiatives
  • Compiling, checking and inputting daily test results into the computer database and generating test reports
  • Monitoring and auditing raw material compliance by suppliers to internal and external specifications
  • Complying with NATA requirements as part of Laboratory
  • General housekeeping, lifting of 5-6 kg weights.



We are looking for a motivated, dynamic person who is ready to start their career in the chemical industry. You will be degree qualified, have excellent communication skills in English, leadership qualities and willing to use your initiative.

This role will require you to be hands-on and work both within a team and on your own. You will be a fast learner, committed and reliable with a good work ethic.
