Senior Validation Chemist
Australia, Victoria
Full Time
18/12/2020
  • Multidisciplinary analytical laboratory in inner NW Melbourne
  • Requires an Analytical Chemist with validation experience
  • Facilitate accreditation of testing activities to ISO/IEC 17025

CLIENT

Based near Melbourne’s CBD, our client’s testing laboratory provides its clients with tailored solutions to diverse analytical chemistry problems by leveraging an array of leading-edge instrumentation and rigorous scientific techniques.

ROLE

Having already obtained accreditation for compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, this full-time permanent position is tasked with project managing of the planned additions to the facility’s NATA scope of accreditation. Whilst this position is not a routine hands-on laboratory role, the Senior Validation Chemist will be technically responsible for the activities that are being sought to be added to the scope.

There will initially be a focus on pesticide residue analysis using GC-MS-MS and LC-MS-MS, so it is essential to have significant experience with at least one of these hyphenated mass spectrometric techniques.

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be shortlisted for this great opportunity, you must have a background in analytical chemistry and must have been previously responsible for reporting results of tests covered by a scope of accreditation—colloquially referred to as being a NATA signatory.

This role shall act as the Subject Matter Expert on validation of analytical test methods, so you will need to have an appropriate level of technical knowledge, excellent project management skills, and proven participation in external audits by the national accreditation body for testing laboratories.

Suitability of applicants will be initially assessed on the basis of the following benchmark criteria, which ensures they are: –

  • A tertiary-qualified professional scientist with substantial experience working in a regulated and/or accredited testing laboratory;
  • Demonstrable competency in the identification and quantitation of trace levels of pesticides within a broad range of sample matrices;
  • Possess a proven track record in method validation and for navigating through the NATA process for additions to a facility’s scope of accreditation;
  • Technical competency to critically evaluate GC-MSMS & LC-MSMS test methods for compliance with ISO/IEC 17205 and also evaluate their suitability against other regulatory requirements;
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders, which includes participation in a technical capacity during internal and external audits of the validated test methods; and
  • Facilitate the laboratory’s future requirements for continuously improving its techniques and methods for residue testing.

Applicants are advised that they will be requested to provide formal responses to our client’s selection criteria as part of the recruitment process for this role, which will be more detailed than the above.
