THE ROLE
In this permanent full-time role you will provide scientific leadership, develop and pursue research to fundamentally transform the building industry and ensure sustainable profitable business growth. You will have the opportunity to follow the latest research, work with state of the art equipment and facilities, and be challenged to think differently about the way you work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior Research Scientist, you will be required to utilise your scientific skills in leading, designing, undertaking and analysing information from controlled laboratory-based investigations, experiments and production trials.
Main responsibilities include:
Literature reviews via scientific academic papers, technology scans, industry research to progress foundational knowledge in key technology areas to further develop IP resulting in breakthrough, improved, innovative new products
Use of scientific methodology and experimental design to plan and conduct experiments in mechanical or chemical laboratories to understand failure analysis of current fibre cement material as well as build knowledge to progress technology areas.
Lead and mentor R&D members in the areas of trial and experimental planning, experimental design and execution and data analysis
Conduct research and testing to trouble shoot and problem solve manufacturing problems and research projects
Collaborate effectively with manufacturing personnel, vendors and suppliers to build understanding of opportunity areas to help drive insights to accelerate projects
Deliver presentations and make sound recommendations to the R&D senior leadership team based on strong scientific experimentation and data analysis
Submit Concept White Papers to drive the R&D technology focus areas
Drive the delivery of all technical tasks for a project from concept to implementation and handover to product development
SELECTION CRITERIA
This position requires a motivated, agile, performance driven individual to support the R&PD business in advancing the development of key technology areas.
To be successful in your application you must meet the following criteria:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry or equivalent. A PhD will be highly regarded.
Demonstrated experience leading technical projects while coaching and mentoring others.
Minimum 8 year’s relevant technical experience.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in cement, polymer or composite materials, or relevant raw materials in the production of fibre cement.
Knowledge of Lean Product Development principles and treatment of scientific data.
Knowledge and/or experience in material property and performance characterization using mechanical, physical, and/or chemical testing/analysis, computational/analytical modeling of materials properties.
Demonstrated experience in applying statistical techniques to evaluate data and make decisions, with the ability to problem solve using a scientific yet practical approach.
Demonstrated ability to innovate, prototype and demonstrate new ideas quickly and safely.
Demonstrated ability to participate in many projects concurrently and flexibility to quickly change focus to meet the challenging business requirements of Research and Development.
Demonstrated advanced skills with computing software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
