Based in Melbourne’s South Eastern suburbs in Victoria and with 60+ years of experience in product development and manufacturing, our client sets the standard in reliability and quality. Partnering with their clients’ businesses, they ensure the security of supply through high-quality manufacturing and on-time delivery. Their focus is on contract manufacturing of listed and OTC therapeutics. This has enabled them to provide a high level of service to many national and international, high profile clients and has been a major factor in their continued growth.

Operating over two sites in excess of 18 acres and an annual output of 70 million units, our client specialises in the contract manufacture of Therapeutics (Prescription, OTC, & Complementary medicines), Medical Devices, and Personal Care products.

 

ROLE 

This Senior R&D Scientist / Manager role presents a great career opportunity and will play an important leadership role within the R&D group of this well known and trusted company. We are looking for professionals with more than eight years’ experience, however, we will consider someone with less experience if it is relevant to this business.

R&D areas of interest include:

  • Topical OTC medicines
  • Sun Care
  • Ingestible liquid OTC medicines
  • Cough and Cold
  • Health Supplements

You will be experienced in the complete product development process including manufacturing scale-up.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior R&D Scientist / Manager reports to the Technical Director and has 2 direct reports. The role is responsible for supporting the OTC Research and Development Technical Department and for driving innovation and IP creation.

Some of the responsibilities associated with this role include:

  • Development of new products from design concept to the final manufacture, including supervision of pilot batches
  • Liaison with customers regarding new product concepts and assistance with general inquiries regarding formulations, batches, and production, etc.
  • The provision of technical services to internal and external customers
  • The coordination of trouble-shooting activities for production and/or product introductions and developments
  • Prioritising of projects and ensuring the work is delivered according to set timelines
  • The provision of guidance to two direct reports (laboratory technologists), including training, planning, advice, and problem resolution
  • Preparation of product costings
  • Implementation of new product development and product stability protocols
  • Initiation and processing of change controls
  • Preparation of new procedures as required
  • Identification and reporting on research and development opportunities

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this excellent opportunity you must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Formulation or similar
  • Eight or more years of experience working in pharmaceutical laboratories as an OTC R&D formulator working on any of the relevant products outlined above such as topical or ingestible pharmaceuticals, sun care, cough, and cold liquids
  • Solid experience with emulsion systems
  • Team oriented, innovative, humanistic, and able to achieve successful outcomes
  • An appreciation of the commercial aspects of R&D with a proven ability to project manage, meet goals, targets, and deadlines
  • Experience in managing the effective transfer from laboratory to commercial scale
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of GLP/GMP and awareness of Intellectual Property
  • Logical approach to research and development challenges
  • Good work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills, and a good team player is a must!
  • Ability to relocate
