Our client is a leading and fast growing contract manufacturer of complementary medicines – vitamins, minerals, herbal and nutritional supplements. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this senior role’s primary responsibility is the microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process products, finished products as necessary and method validation.

You will also be responsible for laboratory equipment calibration, ordering of laboratory consumables and complaint investigations.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate independence and proficiency in performing routine microbiological testing procedures. You will need to have excellent time management and communication skills, be honest, punctual and trustworthy.

The candidate is required to be proficient and excel in the following techniques with minimal guidance:


  • Microbial method validation
  • Equipment qualification and calibration
  • Routine microbial testing of raw materials and finished products including culture preparation and identification
  • Environmental testing of water, air, and equipment
  • Assisting TGA audits
  • GLP / General housekeeping procedures
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments
  • Ordering of laboratory consumables



To be successful in your application, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Science (Microbiology)
  • Sound microbiological knowledge and gained from at least 3 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience preparing sterile microbiological culture media, buffers, equipment maintenance and the safe disposal of lab waste.
  • Proven experience with dilution techniques
  • Many years of experience with bacteria culture preparation, plating techniques, gram staining, microscopy, plate reading and identification
  • Experience with the overall maintenance and effectiveness of the Microbiology Lab such as ordering of inventories and supplies, including proper storage, maintenance, and transferring of microorganisms
  • Equipment qualification and calibration experience
  • Method Validation experience
  • Ability to follow standard test methods and, where appropriate, identify potential improvements or modifications to those test methods.
  • Experience with assisting with TGA audits is a bonus!
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast paced environment whilst still maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems with a positive attitude
  • It is essential that you are proficient with time management and that you are able to work independently with minimal supervision
