COMPANY
Our client, a well known government agency based in Melbourne is looking for a formulation chemist with strong skills to working with specialised coatings- experience with formulations, applications and testing.
THE ROLE
With tertiary qualifications up to the level of PhD, you will need to provide expertise in measuring the performance of coatings using a range of techniques.
In summary your duties will involve the provision of technical and professional support in the following areas:
Measure the electrical performance of coatings using radar range
Spray out coatings using conventional and airless spray techniques & test the physico-mechanical properties of coating
Use a range of coating test methods including:
Viscometry
PATTI adhesion
Electric & Magnetic Permittivity & Permeability
Cross Hatch Adhesion
Tensile strength
Elongation at Break
Colour and Gloss Measurements
Accelerated Weathering (QUV, QSUN)
Available to work interstate on occasions
Assist with general laboratory duties
*You must be willing to undertake an extensive background security check.
SELECTION CRITERIA
To be considered for this position you must meet the following criteria:
You MUST BE an Australian Citizen! PR IS NOT SUFFICIENT
Have tertiary qualifications such as a PhD or lower – degree minimum.
Several years experience working within a Laboratory Environment
Experience in formulations of high-build coatings is essential
Competence in undertaking electrical measurements using a network analyser is a must
Extensive knowledge and experience with standard coating tests is essential
Must have experience in the spray application of high build coatings using- conventional and airless spray equipment
Must have experience in the formulations of high build, high volume solids coatings and dispersion of pigments in polymer systems (using high speed dispersion)
Experience using tensile test equipment (measuring bulk physical properties – break and tensile strength) would be highly regarded
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or individually under general direction.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to complete tasks on time.
