Our client is an agency of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. It was established in 1993 to centralise the registration of all agricultural and veterinary chemical (agvet) products into the Australian marketplace.

The Residues and Trade Team is a part of the Risk Assessment Capability (RAC) Program of this agency. It is responsible for the assessment of the human safety and trade risk aspects of applications for the registration of agricultural and veterinary chemical products, approval of permits to use a chemical for a specific purpose, or the review of an existing chemical product and its uses.



Based in either Armidale NSW or Canberra ACT, this role can be offered under various employment options, ideally as a permanent ongoing position, or on a fixed term tenure of two, three or four years.

The Senior Evaluator will be responsible for providing advice in relation to residue and trade assessments.

You will deliver expert assistance to team managers within the agency through the conduct, peer review and quality checks of residue and trade assessments. The position will also provide pre-application assistance to prospective registrants, evaluation of trial data and dietary exposure assessments and expert technical assistance to staff, as required.



To be successful in your application, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in chemistry, agricultural or animal science or any of the related biological sciences is essential. Postgraduate qualifications in any of these disciplines is desirable.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate, provide pragmatic advice and make decisions on complex information.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting risk assessments, particularly relating to residues of pesticides or veterinary medicines, within a regulatory setting in both data rich and data poor environments.
  • High level communication skills, including the ability to prepare documents and reports and to represent the agency in a variety of forums.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with clients, staff and service providers to establish and maintain internal and external networks.
  • Proven time and project management skills enabling you to manage and establish team priorities to deliver high quality outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including promoting collaboration and information sharing.
  • This is a security assessed position and the successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment.
