Our client is an accredited food testing laboratory that provides partnerships for companies by mitigating risk through proactive testing approaches, continual improvement and a daily focus on quality. This enables them to support their business partners’ requirements 365 days per year.



Due to growth, a new position has become available within our client’s Microbiology Testing Department. Reporting to the Business Manager, this important, full-time, permanent role, is responsible for the supervision of all activities and staff within the sample preparation section.



As the Section Leader you will be directly responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational needs of this Section. You will ensure customer service expectations are met within budget and that the section operates to appropriate quality and safety standards.

You will also be required to:

  • Solve day to day process problems within the department
  • Work in partnership with your Team Leader and other supervisors to solve client problems to ensure quality and customer satisfaction standards are met
  • Schedule work flow through the Section so that client deadlines are met in a timely fashion
  • Monitor throughput and performance
  • Train & motivate staff, set goals, review performance and assess training needs, at least once a year
  • Plan and initiate procedures and systems to ensure the maintenance and improvement of the Section’s processes
  • Provide appropriate support for employees on OHS issues
  • Manage and oversee Incident & Hazard Management and Reporting Systems for the Section



To be successful in your application you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or related discipline, preferably with a major in Microbiology
  • Many years experience in a management/supervisory role within a Laboratory environment
  • Excellent administration and organizational skills
  • Excellent Microsoft office skills – word, excel and power point
  • Demonstrated ability to manage/co-ordinate service/project delivery across functional groups
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong customer focus
  • Demonstrated problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Strong team building and leadership attributes
  • Focused on providing a quality service and on achieving results
