CLIENT
Our client offers testing services to food manufacturers such as the meat, dairy, confectionery, beverage and allied industries.
As one of Australia’s largest independent food testing laboratories, they continue to steadily grow and expand their microbiological, chemical and physical analytical capabilities, which all contribute to the delivery of accurate and timely results in every aspect of the food industry – from raw materials to finished products.
With state-of-the-art automated microbiology systems and specialised staff, they offer analysis for food pathogens, spoilage organisms and bacterial identification to mention a few.
ROLE
This permanent role reports directly to the Business Unit Leader and it is a great opportunity for someone who would like to get more into management. You will be someone who works with integrity to ensure compliance, makes informed decisions and ethical judgements to meet objectives and provides support, leadership and pro-active management and direction to their staff.
As the Section Leader for the Pathogen team, you are directly responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational needs of the section. You will ensure customer service expectations are met within budget and that the section operates to appropriate quality and safety standards. You will also contribute to method development and validation activities, ensuring the section achieves required regulatory accreditation.
Some of the duties associated with this role include:
Ensuring the service delivery meets or exceeds your customers requirements
Reviewing, developing and introducing systems, practices and cultural changes that enables the Section to better meet business demands within agreed time frames and expected GxP standards.
Providing expert advice to key customer departments and to professionally represent the department to key customers
Ensuring the business unit performs within budget or achieves financial goals.
Ensuring compliance to all Quality and EH&S systems
Ensuring staff are appropriately trained, cognizant of, and competent in all company procedures.
Assist in the development and implementation of new business initiatives to meet company business goals and objectives.
Provides leadership and pro-active management and direction
Is familiar with, and actively communicates, the Strategic Plan/Business Plan objectives of the company through day-to day activities with staff and longer term planning management
Leads by example in the display of expected values, behaviour and culture
Facilitates an environment of reward and recognition for staff achievement
Creates an environment of open communication and equal recognition of contribution
Develops and implements a career development and succession planning program for key staff
SELECTION CRITERIA
Bachelor of Science or higher, preferably with a major in Microbiology or similar. Lesser qualifications will be considered given many years of testing experience
Minimum of 3 years experience in a role that has required leadership and supervision within a Laboratory environment
Demonstrated ability to manage/co-ordinate service/project delivery across functional groups
Excellent communication skills and strong customer focus
Excellent administration and organizational skills
Solid Microsoft office skills – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Demonstrated problem solving and negotiation skills
Strong team building and leadership attributes a must
Positive attitude, honest and professional
Focused on providing a quality service
Accountability – focused on achieving results
