CLIENT
Our client is an Australian government statutory authority based in Canberra. It applies scientific expertise to evaluate and register all pesticides and veterinary medicines, support Australian agricultural and livestock industries and protect the health and safety of people, animals, the environment and Australia’s overseas trade.
THE ROLE
Our client requires an experienced Scientific Writer to assist with the preparation of regulatory frameworks and standards to meet national and international standards. These frameworks and standards will be prepared based on the existing scientific literature available and encompass any national &/or international issues or trends arising that have the potential to impact the integrity of these documents. The Scientific Writer will be responsible for the content of documents, including the preparation for public consultation through to final sign off and communication to all stakeholders and impacted parties for subsequent compliance.
This is a contract role and is offered for an initial term until 30th June 2018. There is potential for ongoing work as the Government Authority’s needs will continue into the foreseeable future.
Reporting to the Chief Regulatory Scientist, the core functions of the Scientific Writer include:
Finalising reports for public consultation, including presentation of documents on the Government Authority’s website and some direct liaison with key stakeholders
Incorporation of consultation comments into subsequent documentation for evaluation and consideration by the appropriate internal stakeholders
Publication of final release documentation to the Authority’s website
SELECTION CRITERIA
To be successful in your application you will need to meet the following criteria:
PhD or Masters in a Scientific discipline.
Significant expertise and experience in the preparation of written documentation for use in the public domain
Superior written communication ability – writing accurate, clear and concise documents for both a scientific community and the Australian population at large
Ability to solve problems, pay attention to detail, make decisions based on sound science and risk analysis to demonstrate the capacity to negotiate persuasively and confidently
Ability to apply common sense assessment principles and to analyse and evaluate complex scientific and technical information in order to provide well thought out advice on the interpretation of data, scientific reports, policies and procedures within a regulatory framework
Highly developed planning and organisational skills including the ability to determine own workflow priorities and assume responsibility for completion of organisational goals whilst maintaining a focus on quality
Highly developed critical thinking, analysis, discretion and change management skills to maintain focus on achieving key organisational outcomes
To be selected for this role you must have full work rights in Australia but you are not required to be an Australian citizen. You must also be willing to undergo a police check
