Our Client is a non-government organisation driving technology solutions for a better Australia. They work closely with relevant organisations in Australia and overseas in the areas of engineering, sciences and technological sciences.



The position of Research & Policy Officer undertakes research and analysis on current issues and reporting on this information in a verbal and written format. The successful candidate will assist in the management of projects, development of policy positions and engage with key stakeholders.

This role will provide strategic focus and profile for our client in the areas of Energy, Education, Sustainable Resources Management – Water and Minerals. The main focus of the role will be in the Energy sector.

To be successful in this role you will have proven experience in researching, the ability to collate and digest complex information and confidently relay this in both written reports and verbal presentations. Relationship building with internal and external stakeholders should come easily to you. Initially a twelve month fixed-term tenure, this will be reviewed for the right candidate.



As a Research and Policy Officer your duties in the Energy, Education and Resource Management sectors will be varied and will encompass the following:

  • Undertake research and analysis across the 3 sectors
  • Identify and analyse policy issues of relevance
  • Drafting and editing of policy studies, reports and other outputs
  • Scope new research project opportunities
  • Provide technical input and minute taking of Assembly, Forums and Working groups as directed
  • Ensure all Forums and Working Groups are kept up to date with current issues and developments
  • Regulate and monitor online forums activity
  • Contribute to website information
  • Represent our client in meetings or seminars
  • Interstate travel may be required from time to time
  • Occasional out of office hours work may be required



  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or similar in Energy with a PhD preferred.
  • Must have work experience in the Energy sector or a post-graduate degree in Energy or similar.
  • Work experience in education or resources- (natural/mineral) would be well regarded.
  • A good understanding of national and/or international science/technology policies.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, all levels of government, within industry and academia.
  • Well-developed analytical, research and problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to implement organisation strategies, policies and business plans.
  • Experience in research and/or policy relating to energy will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated high level ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to managing workloads and priorities to meet organisational deadlines.
  • Excellent level of computer literacy.
