CLIENT

Our client, operates a drug testing laboratory which specialises in the detection of drugs and related substances in biological fluids such as blood and urine. It also provides a drug testing service to Industry in the areas of human workplace and OH&S. With accreditations to both AS/NZS4308:2008 and AS4760:2006, this busy Consulting Laboratory, is looking to employ a Research Chemist with excellent GCMS and LCMS method development experience on a permanent basis.

 

ROLE

The role of Research Chemist is a newly created position due to business growth. The successful candidate will assist the Scientific Manager with research and development based tasks in the laboratory; the maintenance, efficiency and continuity of instrumental analysis; and the provision of expert evidence of behalf of the company, to the appropriate bodies when required. Your experience and capabilities will determine whether you will be employed as a Senior Research Chemist.

Some of the main duties associated with this role include:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of new drug screening methods using LCMS and GCMS
  • Conducting pharmacokinetic, drug metabolism and chemical syntheses
  • Performing contract research work
  • Undertaking investigative testing of miscellaneous samples
  • Provide scientific and technical support in all aspects of the company’s operations
  • Providing expert opinion and evidence on behalf of the organisation (once fully trained) to Appeal Boards and other such bodies as required
  • Providing Instrument support to the business in conjunction with the Scientific Manager and Technical Operations Manager

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor or higher Degree in Science or related field
  • Extensive LCMS and GCMS experience including development and implementation of new drug screening methods, operational, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • A sound knowledge of SPE techniques and related instrumentation.
  • A minimum of ten years experience in a similar role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as you will be providing expert evidence to Appeals Boards once trained
  • Problem solving, innovative thinking and excellent attention to detail is a must
  • Ability to multi-task and strong time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or autonomously
  • Be adaptable and flexible to deal with a varying work load
  • Great work ethic and reliability are essential for this busy role
