CLIENT
Our client is a well established Consumer Goods company operating in a variety of markets including personal care, skincare, and home care sectors. With a commitment to manufacturing in Australia, they are focused on growth through innovation and competitive marketing strategies. Currently undergoing increased manufacturing volume within their home care range.
ROLE
This newly created R&D Manager role with our client, is based in Melbourne within their Research & Development Team and will be focused on the domestic and international skincare range. Reporting to the Group R&D Lead, the primary responsibility of this role will be to supervise, coordinate and manage the R&D team to successfully complete new product development projects.
The main responsibilities include:
Manage the performance of the R&D team, coach, mentor and develop their skills
Drive the development of innovative and technically advanced products on time and in line with business requirements
Assess the existing formulations and review current NPD projects to ensure cost-effective & efficient formulas are approved
Coordinate documenting of formulations, cost, manufacturing parameters, product information, specifications, and testing requirements in accordance with business needs
While working with internal and external stakeholders, research new ideas and raw materials with your team
Supervise and initiate laboratory trials of new formulations, scale-ups, and first production runs
Ensure training matrix is updated and all member of the team are trained in relevant processes and test methods
Assist with client meetings on new product development
Ensure all projects are managed and record-keeping is at its best
Complete and review all relevant technical reports
Maintain laboratory health and safety standards.
SELECTION CRITERIA
To be successful in your application, you will ideally meet the following criteria:
Bachelor degree in Formulation Science, Formulation Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Material Science or similar
Extensive experience in product formulation in Cosmetics, Skincare or Therapeutic products in the industry
Experience in a relevant leadership role, min. 3 years’, in Cosmetics, Skincare or Therapeutic products
A strong understanding of the product development process from concept through to scale up
Proven experience with emulsions, surfactants, rheology modifiers, preservatives, and relevant additives
Must be resourceful and have initiative
Highly organized with the ability to project-manage in a dynamic environment where priorities change
Confident and Resilient – a demonstrated record of success
Computer Skills and previous experience of using an ERP system would be an advantage
