Unique opportunity to join a Government Body to assist and carry out Risk Assessments of Industrial Chemicals. Our client currently has the need for  a qualified professionals to join their team for an initial six-month contract which may be reviewed for further extension.

 

ROLE

If you are a PhD or Masters qualified scientist with initiative, a keen eye for detail, who has demonstrated superb writing skills, excellent time management, multi-tasking and communication skills; is a team player and is ready for their next career challenge then keep reading.

The purpose of this position is to undertake scientific searches on chemicals in order to evaluate the information and their impact on human health. You will prepare a range of assessments including complex technical reports.

In this role the successful applicants will:

  • Prepare human health risk assessment reports by retrieving hazard and exposure data from various information sources.
  • Under limited supervision conduct risk assessments of industrial chemicals.
  • Undertake scientific searches on chemicals, evaluating the information and their impact on human and environmental health and prepare technical reports.
  • Assist in the implementation of reforms and procedures in relation to the assessment of industrial chemicals.
  • Respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
  • Prepare a range of correspondence, including Ministerial and departmental briefs, procurement and program management documentation.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience in applying scientific principles to hazard, exposure and risk assessment and knowledge of the regulation of chemicals in Australia.

Qualifications and/or experience in chemistry, environmental sciences, regulatory systems or the biomedical sciences, particularly in the areas of toxicology, pharmacology, or biochemistry will see you short-listed for this exciting opportunity!

To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Hold a PhD or Masters in  Chemistry, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Toxicology or similar.
  • Post Graduate experience in Chemistry or Biomedical Sciences, particularly in the areas of Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or Medicine.
  • Previous experience working within a Government organisation would be highly regarded.
  • Qualifications and/or experience in Information Technology would be highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and analyse scientific information on chemicals from a variety of sources and prepare related reports.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, including demonstrated capacity to meet tight deadlines and to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be adaptable and flexible to deal with a varying workload.
  • Great work ethic, reliability and a good eye for detail are essential for this busy role.
