Our client is a well established Consumer Goods company operating in a variety of markets including personal care, skincare and home care sectors. With a commitment to manufacturing in Australia, they are focused on growth through innovation and competitive marketing strategies.



The role with our client is based in Melbourne within their Research and Development Team, and will be focused on the skincare range. Reporting to the R&D Leader, the primary responsibility of this role will be to develop new  products from bench scale samples through to scale up and commercialisation.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Work with internal stakeholders such as Key Account Management and Technical Departments to define requirements as part of product development brief
  • Generate formulations aligned to the product development brief, including functional and commercial requirements, then produce these on the bench
  • Continue bench development until product approval, and conduct product costing
  • Scale up bench scale to Pilot Plant and validate product parameters
  • Scale to full plant production and validate approved formulation
  • Document formulations, cost, manufacturing parameters, product information, specifications and testing requirements
  • Maintain laboratory health and safety standards.



To be successful in your application, you will ideally meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor degree in Formulation Science, Organic Chemistry, Material Science or similar
  • 3+ years’ relevant product development/ formulation experience in Cosmetics, Skincare or Personal care 
  • A strong understanding of product development process from concept through to scale up
  • Strong practical ability and enthusiasm to work on bench scale at pace
  • Experience with ingredient function and sourcing, along with INCI lists and interpretation of literature searches
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision independently and within a team
  • Must be resourceful and have initiative
  • Highly organized with the ability to project manage in a dynamic environment where priorities change
  • Confident and Resilient – a demonstrated record of success
  • Computer Skills and previous experience of using an ERP system would be an advantage
