Our client’s testing laboratory is part of a Commonwealth government organisation. The laboratory holds a scope of accreditation with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) for its activities, which are compliant with ISO/IEC 17025 (2017).

Interpretations of the results arising from these accredited activities underpin a variety of associated research work, which is of vital importance to Australia’s ongoing security.



Due to the secondment of the incumbent in this full-time role, the management of the facility requires an experienced individual to take the helm of its quality management system (QMS) and, acting on a contract basis, perform the duties of their NATA Quality Assurance Manager.

This is a contract role requiring the successful candidate to work 37.5 hours per week. It is anticipated that it shall commence upon AGSVA granting security clearance and the initial contract is until March 2021.

Tasks to be undertaken by the NATA Quality Assurance Manager include:

  • Coordinate and perform quality assurance, governance, auditing and corporate reporting activities;
  • Provide guidance on the management of quality assurance processes and planning including the review and improvement of laboratory activities;
  • Analyse and suggest improvements to quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure appropriate performance against the best practice;
  • Design and implement solutions to issues impacting on the achievement of desired outcomes;
  • Monitor instrument compliance status, against acceptance criteria, and arrange calibration of equipment as required;
  • Engage with NATA as required and co-ordinate assessment activities and resulting actions;
  • Provide advice, training and updates on Quality System requirements;
  • Coordinate reviews and updates of the laboratory’s Analytical Methods, Operating Guidelines, and validation/verification processes; and
  • Reviews the Poisons Control Plan and provide associated training to relevant staff



To be considered for this opportunity you MUST BE AN AUSTRALIAN CITIZEN* and will also need to address the following criteria:

  • Qualification(s) from an Australian Tertiary Institution (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field;
  • Proven ability to develop, implement and review quality assurance and governance procedures, practices and frameworks;
  • Demonstrable high-level understanding of NATA Accreditation Criteria (NAC) in the field of testing, preferably with knowledge of requirements for forensics;
  • Experience with coordinating of management review meetings and external audits then managing action items arising therefrom;
  • Conduct internal audits in accordance with a pre-determined schedule and the maintaining of records of compliance with the current QMS, ISO/IEC 17025, and all relevant NATA accreditation requirements;
  • Ideally, previously acted in the capacity of Authorised Representative; and
  • MUST be willing to undergo a security clearance check conducted by AGSVA.*

*Please note it is insufficient to be a permanent resident or New Zealand citizen, only Australian citizens are eligible to be considered for this contract role.
