Our client is a growing and reputable Publicly listed manufacturing business based in the western suburbs of Melbourne. They use their Patented Technology to microencapsulate Omega Essential Fatty Acids, proven to have nutritional benefits for Infants, Adults and Children.
Continuous success, even through Covid, has meant the company continues to grow. The business has announced a New Joint Venture in NZ building a Spray Dryer to increase capacity as well as the intention of building a brand new laboratory in Melbourne to bring all testing in-house.

As the 2IC to the Head of Quality, Regulatory and Technical, the Quality Laboratory Manager will provide leadership to the operation, schedule and function of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be key to ensuring that all aspects of the Company’s Quality Control Program are developed and maintained to ensure compliance of manufactured products against required specifications.
Some responsibilities associated with this role:
Oversee the quality of ingredients and products
Directly manage the training requirements and duties of the Quality Control Chemists in Melbourne
Liaise and occasionally visit the NZ Spray Dryer operations to ensure all ingredients meet stringent quality requirements
Ensure compliance of internal and external laboratory methodologies and practices against customer specifications and regulatory standards
Manage the budgetary spending within the Quality Control Department
Implement appropriate measures and/or mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement in the Quality Control of raw material, in-process product and final product
Ensure compliance of external analytical laboratories against required quality expectations
Responsibility for verification and quality sign off of all production related CCPs and CPs as part of the overall product batch review and final QC release of product
Ensure the calibration of critical analytical equipment used for in-process testing of products is appropriately maintained
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
Degree in Chemistry, Food Science/Technology (or related Scientific Discipline)
At least 10 years of experience in a Quality related position within the food manufacturing industry such as dairy, oils or infant formula
Previous experience within an analytical / QC laboratory
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders
Understanding of HACCP principles & knowledge of ISO/FSSC22000 and GLP
A sound understanding of microbiological and chemical analysis techniques (including fatty acid analysis using GC)
Excellent problem solving and report writing skills
Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced environment, including the drive and energy for meeting deadlines.
