Based in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs, our client is a successful Australian owned and operated manufacturing business that supplies its range of products to the food industry. The business has been growing rapidly for over a decade and, through a substantial investment in its plant and equipment, has resulted in a multi-million dollar company. Its products are ingredients supplied to food manufacturing companies that includes several well-recognised FMCG brands.



Reporting to the Quality Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring Quality Standards are met during the afternoon shift (i.e., Mon to Fri 3 pm to 11.30 pm). This is achieved by conducting routine testing and recording of results; auditing systems and processes; training manufacturing staff; and rectifying any abnormal results.

This position will suit a mature candidate looking for an autonomous role in food manufacturing. Someone who has accrued a few years’ experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Control role and wants to free up their days by working from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm. 

Remuneration will be comprised of a base salary, which shall incorporate a shift loading of 15%, plus superannuation.

Daily duties will vary, ranging from participating in routine Food Safety and Quality Management programs,  which include internal/external audits and in-line process control measurements, through to supporting Vendor Assurance, Product Labelling, and Sensory & Shelf-Life Evaluation activities.

As the only Quality Assurance person on the floor during afternoon shifts, you will need to provide direction and/or resolve issues as raised by a small team of production line workers. 



The ideal person will have experience in a food manufacturing environment and will feel at ease dealing with a multinational group of production workers. You must be assertive, a great time manager and confident in your abilities to trouble shoot and make decisions autonomously. 

Additionally, the ideal candidate will also have: –

  • A tertiary qualification degree or diploma in Food Science & Technology or related discipline will be well regarded
  • Good working knowledge of HACCP & Food Safety Systems
  • Exposure to SQF and/or BRC Systems
  • Initiative, learning agility, and problem solving abilities, so as to be able to autonomously provide QA support for the duration of the shift
  • Demonstrated ability to balance a range of activities through organisation and prioritisation
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel, along with evidence of the ability to document results accurately and interpret findings
  • Well-developed communication skills are a requirement this role, as some training of factory staff in Quality, Hygiene, and OH&S is expected
  • Competence and confidence necessary for ensuring quality system requirements are fully adhered to within a production environment
  • Keen eye for detail is essential, including proof reading of product labels
  • Working knowledge of FSANZ
