ROLE

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this full-time position is based in the Western suburbs of Melbourne.

With clear succession planning in mind for the successful candidate in this role, our client will provide training and mentoring. You will be given an opportunity to become a Technical Leader in a few years of years, so if you are a passionate product development scientist who is looking to step up to a senior role, this is the right opportunity for you!

We are looking for a chemist that has excellent communication skills, a great work ethic and is a team player. Someone that can think outside the box and does not mind being hands-on!

The person required for this role will be trained to assist in the development of new products according to customer and internal stakeholder requirements. You will contribute to building excellent working relationships with all clients, external and internal.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Development of new products according to customer briefs and improvement of existing products as required
  • Meeting with clients to understand their needs, record product briefs and project manage their requirements
  • Leading product stability trials including repeatability and reliability trials internally and on customer sites
  • Reviewing and writing of new product development processes and manufacturing procedures
  • Conducting product upscaling to production, supervise new manufacturing processes, product quality and safety of the process
  • Contributing to a regular review of manufacturing procedures and processes, suggesting improvements and addressing bottlenecks to achieve continuous improvement of manufacturing costs and product quality
  • Assessment of trial and finished products using various physical testing equipment and instrumentation

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be successful in your application you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or similar
  • Solid practical laboratory skills with a good mechanical aptitude and hands-on approach with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Formulating experience as well as reaction chemistry experience within an industrial framework. Experience within the resin/polymer industry would be highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to conduct hands-on lab work
  • Experience conducting specification testing of products, predominantly physical including colour, flexibility, hardness etc.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship development skills necessary to deal with internal and external customers. You will be dealing with team members across different cultures, customers, suppliers, operations and other business personnel across a broad spectrum of seniority positions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as you will be dealing directly with clients.
