Our client is an established company within the Medical Device Industry and operates its manufacturing operation in Melbourne, Australia. Their products are sold, marketed and distributed around the globe. With a very clear purpose and vision, product pipeline and significant regulatory approvals, this company is experiencing significant growth.



A trusted leader in their market space, our client is always looking to innovate and improve the way their products are delivered and utilised by patients and medical professionals.

Due to internal movement, there is an opening for an experienced Product Development Manager within their R&D Division. Reporting to the Director of Research & Operations, this position will be responsible for driving the research and development of new medicine delivery devices. In doing so, the successful candidate will ensure that all processes and new devices are compliant to current regulatory standards whilst providing the company with a competitive edge.

As most delivery devices are polymer based, the ideal candidate will have qualifications in Material Science or Engineering and experience in the R&D of regulated products. Specific experience in medical devices will be highly regarded.

Main duties of this role include:

  • Generating and evaluating new product ideas taking into account profitability and ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Determining product development strategies and tactics
  • Planning, designing, building, verifying and validating delivery of new inhaler and respiratory products
  • Improving and/or modifying current products and processes
  • Engaging with, and directing 3rd parties to drive the development process and ensure products meet the required specifications
  • Liaising with engineering, research, technical and/or production team members
  • Mentoring and supervising junior team members
  • Writing and reading technical papers, reports, reviews and specifications
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.



To be successful you will have a proven track record in Product Development, be results-oriented, ambitious and have the ability to be part of a champion team.

As the successful candidate, you will have a high degree of initiative and will be able to operate with a high degree of autonomy and as part of a team, exhibiting clear thinking and sound judgement.

Interpersonal communication skills will be paramount for this rewarding role, including excellent written communication, due to the highly technical nature of the industry and the range of personnel you will be interacting with on a daily basis.

A summary of required criteria include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Material Science or similar
  • Experience in bringing new products, preferably medical devices, to market
  • Demonstrated experience in the pharmaceutical/medical device industry will be highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of polymers and injection moulding
  • Experience with design for manufacturing/design for assembly
  • Solid 3D CAD skills
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • 5+ years of experience of the product development life cycle from concept to commercialisation
  • Understanding of product branding, sales & marketing.
