CLIENT

Unique opportunity to join a Government Body to assist and carry out risk assessments of Industrial Chemicals. Something that happens all the time, however few of us get an opportunity to be part of the process. Who knows where it could lead? Our client currently has the need for three qualified professionals to join their team on 6-month contracts; one to start immediately, one to start in a month and one to start in approximately two months. The initial 6 month contracts may be reviewed.

 

ROLE

The purpose of these positions is to undertake scientific searches on chemicals, evaluate the information and their impact on human health, and prepare a range of assessment products including information sheets and complex technical reports.

In this role the successful applicants will:

  • Under limited supervision conduct risk assessments of industrial chemicals in accordance with the Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Act 1989.
  • Undertake scientific searches on chemicals, evaluating the information and their impact on human and environmental health and prepare technical reports.
  • Assist in the implementation of reforms and procedures in relation to the assessment of industrial chemicals.
  • Respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
  • Under supervision prepare a range of correspondence, including Ministerial and departmental briefs, procurement and program management documentation.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a PhD or Master’s degree in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology or similar
  • Experience in Biological or Biomedical Sciences, particularly in the areas of Toxicology, Pharmacology, or Biochemistry.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and analyse scientific information on chemicals from a variety of sources and prepare related reports.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, including demonstrated capacity to meet tight deadlines and to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be adaptable and flexible to deal with a varying work load.
  • Great work ethic, reliability and a good eye for detail are essential for this busy role.
