THE CLIENT

Our client is an agency of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. It was established in 1993 to centralise the registration of all agricultural and veterinary chemical (agvet) products into the Australian marketplace.

The Portfolio Manager provides support to the Executive Director of the Risk Assessment Capability (RAC) Program. The RAC is responsible for the assessment of the human safety and trade risk aspects of applications for the registration of agricultural and veterinary chemical products, approval of permits to use a chemical for a specific purpose, or the review of an existing chemical product and its uses.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Based in either Armidale NSW or Canberra ACT, this role is a permanent ongoing position.

THE POSITION

The Portfolio Manager will provide support to the Executive Director RAC, as well as the Assessment Team Directors and other agency staff. The position is responsible for the preparation of, and assistance in the preparation of, briefs and other documents for various technical and non-technical audiences associated with the regulation of Agvet chemicals.

The successful candidate will liaise directly with applicants, the AgVet chemical industry, producer industries and other stakeholders. As part of this, you will be responsible for the overseeing, coordination and reporting between assessment teams within RAC and with the greater agency and its contractors to ensure that processing timeframes are met.

 

REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in your application, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a biological or related science are essential.
  • Demonstrated high level written communication skills, including the ability to consider inputs from a range of sources to prepare documents, briefs, and Ministerial correspondence on complex scientific and regulatory matters related to any aspect of AgVet chemicals for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing and establishing priorities and outcomes across teams, through the effective use of project management, monitoring, liaison and reporting skills.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate, provide pragmatic advice and make decisions on complex information, with demonstrated experience in a regulatory setting.
  • Demonstrated high level oral communication skills, being able to clearly and confidently discuss complex scientific and regulatory matters with clients, staff, service providers, producer industries and other stakeholders in a variety of forums.
  • This is a security assessed position and the successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment.
