Our client is offering an exciting opportunity for a hand’s on food professional to make a difference for a start-up plant protein operation, which is unique in the market. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Production Manager with a curious mind and passion for excellence.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Based in Melbourne’s West, this is a permanent position and presents the perfect scenario for technically qualified Food Production professionals to work for an innovative start-up business.

Reporting to the Director, your role will play an integral part of our client’s state of the art R&D production establishment. Your expertise and experience will help develop and contribute to the ongoing growth of the business where your responsibilities will include

  • All aspects of operations and outputs for the pilot plant
  • Ensuring the manufacturing areas are well managed, compliant and sustainable with a good workplace culture
  • Development of documented procedures & SOPs
  • Strict adherence to Food Safety and OH&S standards
  • Work with stakeholders towards product commercialisation
  • Work day and production planning
  • Leadership of a small team
  • Form strong relationships with other areas of the business
  • Strong involvement in a continuous improvement and quality culture
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders on all production matters

As a part of the team you will work closely with other support functions to assist in improvement of productivity and product quality. This “hands on role” will provide you with a challenging, rewarding, secure and stable ongoing career in a dynamic organisation.

 

REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in your application, you need to meet the following criteria:

The ideal candidate will possess formal qualifications in food technology or food engineering, have 5-10 years experience within a food manufacturing environment. You will be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills with a proven history of achieving improvements in output and efficiency by actively engaging with good analytical and problem solving skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage a complex processing environment.

In addition, our ideal candidate will have:

  • A proactive attitude towards Workplace Health and Safety
  • Strong understanding of Food Safety and HACCP – material produced from the pilot plant will be used in commercial context frequently
  • An inclusive leadership style based on coaching and team building
  • Leadership skills to be assertive and be able to deliver on business goals
  • A passion for producing high quality product in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in managing accurate systems, documentation and databases for team records and processes, including intermediate Excel and Word skills
  • Expertise in problem solving and decision-making skills
  • A hands-on work approach and is not afraid of getting their hands dirty
  • Good mechanical aptitude and a “can do” attitude
  • Facilitate in the training of new staff
  • Ability to communicate, engage and lead a diverse work force of different backgrounds
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to increase efficiency in manufacturing line and reduce costs
  • Forklift licence will be looked upon favourably
