CLIENT

The Food and Nutrition Science and Technology Capability (FNSTC) within the Defence Science and Technology Group, (DST Group) based in Scottsdale provides science and technology advice and research in support of Defence’s fresh and combat ration feeding systems for use in combat ration packs.

 

THE ROLE

The aim of the role is to provide scientific input into Science & Technology/Research and Development activities relating to the packaging of ration pack feeding systems. The person in this role will conduct research relating to different properties and functionalities of packaging materials to provide reassurance of the content’s integrity and to support future R&D projects.

This part-time contract position (3-4 days/week) will commence in March 2021 and is due to complete in February 2022. There is an option for a further extension for up to 6 months.

The successful candidate will be undertaking the following duties:

• Carry out scientific literature and Defence doctrine reviews to aggregate current knowledge so to inform the development of technology advances in packaging
• Write technical reports in relation to conducted literature research and present to FNSCT
• Data entry and analysis; report writing
• Provide relevant scientific advice and general support to Science &Technology work programs and activities

SELECTION CRITERIA

• This government role requires the candidate to be an Australian citizen – PR is NOT SUFFICIENT
• Hold tertiary qualifications in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with a PhD would be well regarded
• Past experience working with food packaging systems and ability to understand packaging functionality and effects on the contents
• The ability to conduct literature reviews and write complex technical reports is a must

• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• An ability to work individually, with a high level of autonomy under general direction
• A demonstrated ability to work to deadlines and to successfully complete tasks on time

• Advanced ability to search literature and compile fit-for-purpose reporting and summary information
