COMPANY

Our client, Food and Nutrition Science and Technology Capability, a Division of the Department of Defence is based in Scottsdale, in beautiful Tasmania and boasts state of the art facilities including R&D and Manufacturing.

The Food and Nutrition Science and Technology Capability (FNSTC) within the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group provides Defence with science and technology (S&T) advice and research in support of Defence fresh and combat ration feeding systems. It also manufactures a range of specialised foods for use in combat ration packs.

Due to the current contractor accepting a permanent role with the Department of Defence, we have a new opportunity for a qualified Nutritionist to join the Food Science team on contract. The successful candidate will be required to work 5 days a week, 37.5 hours, until June 2019.

 

THE ROLE

The aim of the role is to provide scientific input into Science & Technology/Research and Development activities relating to fresh and ration pack feeding, including dietary advice to Defence in relation to personnel health and performance, writing and review of food specifications and standards, field trial support activities, and provide general support to work programs and activities across the site.

This full-time contract position will commence asap and is due to complete June 2019. Based in Scottsdale, an hour’s drive from Launceston, you will be working with a friendly and caring group.

 

The successful candidate will be undertaking the following duties:

• Perform nutrient analyses of recipes and menus
• Interpret Food Works outputs looking for nutritional adequacy and suitability
• Evaluate and compare application of recipes and menu classification systems
• Prepare, execute and finalise activities in support of field work including dietary intake and energy expenditure
• Contribute to the design of prototype ration packs
• Participate in food evaluation (sensory/taste panel) activities
• Provision of advice on food and nutrition legislative requirements and guidance
• Support workplace health and safety requirements
• Data entry and analysis; contribute to report writing
• Provide nutrition advice and general support to Science &Technology work programs and activities

The focus of this role is NOT undertaking nutrition and dietetic consultations with individual members of Defence. 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

• This government role requires the candidate to be an Australian citizen – PR is NOT SUFFICIENT

• Hold tertiary qualifications in Nutrition, Dietetics or a related field

• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• An ability to work as part of a team and individually under general direction

• A demonstrated ability to work to deadlines and to successfully complete tasks on time

• Experience in the use of Food Works and general computer software
