THE ROLE

In Australia, our client is a dynamic growing business servicing the Australian Food Manufacturing Export market. The development of this Melbourne based, Food Testing Laboratory, is a further step to provide value to both the industry and the consumer in China.

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, as the Microbiology Team Leader you will be directly responsible for ensuring the achievement of quality, operational and service objectives to support the vision & strategic plans of the business.

Some of the duties associated with this role include:

  • Assist the Laboratory Manager in the setup of an operational food and dairy microbiology testing laboratory, including equipment commissioning, Microbiology staff training, implementation of LIMS.
  • Implement, gain accreditation and manage Quality and EH&S systems for the Lab such as NATA ISO17025 ensuring business compliance.
  • Implement Micro operations service delivery and right first time KPI’s to ensure that customer requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Reviewing, developing and introducing systems, practices and cultural changes that enables the laboratory to better meet business demands within agreed timeframes and expected quality standards.
  • When required perform a variety of GB food and dairy cultural and rapid methods such as pour plate, spread plate, MPN, ELISA and PCR.
  • Managing workflows and analysis load across the team to achieve the best outcome.
  • Managing a small team of Microbiology Analysts.
  • Liaise with internal staff concerning a client’s servicing needs.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be shortlisted for the exciting opportunity, you will need to meet the following selection criteria:

  • A Degree in Science specialising in Microbiology, Biotechnology or Food Science.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a team leadership role within a commercial or manufacturing Laboratory environment.
  • Experience in the use and troubleshooting of relevant equipment
  • Assessment and trouble shooting of test results and/or OOS
  • Experience and working knowledge in the application of GLP and Quality Systems – ISO 17025 is a must.
  • Good computer skills including Excel and/or data management systems such as LIMS highly regarded.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (oral, written & listening).
  • Must have excellent time management skills to be able to work efficiently and be flexible to deal with changes in priorities.
  • As the Team Leader you must have strong Interpersonal skills and display an analytical and logical approach to your work.
  • Must be commercial and performance focused with a professional and friendly personality.
  • Must act collaborative and be proactive.
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin preferred.
