CLIENT
Our client offers testing services to food manufacturers such as the meat, dairy, confectionery, beverage and allied industries.
As one of Australia’s largest independent food testing laboratories, they continue to steadily grow and expand their microbiological, chemical and physical analytical capabilities, which all contribute to the delivery of accurate and timely results in every aspect of the food industry – from raw materials to finished products.
With state-of-the-art automated microbiology systems and specialised staff, they offer analysis for food pathogens, spoilage organisms and bacterial identification to mention a few.
ROLE
Due to growth, a couple of positions have become available for experienced microbiologists to take on the role of Team Leader.Some of the duties associated with this role include:
assisting with writing and reviewing laboratory documentation such as standard operating procedures and induction for new team members
overseeing / providing training to the team
assessing competency of team members
working on the bench
ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures
evaluating control charts and accepting and rejecting results based on sound scientific judgement
implementing the operational plan by managing staffing levels, labour hours and overtime, annual leave and sick leave
identifying Key Performance Indicators and contributing to risk management and contingency planning
maintaining instruments and equipment
maintaining reference materials
managing stocks and supplies
answering queries from internal and external clients
coordinating with client services, Registration, and Technical Team e.g. sample problems
producing reports such as charts of numbers of tests
supporting innovation
SELECTION CRITERIA
Bachelor of Science or higher, preferably with a major in Microbiology or similar. Lesser qualifications will be considered given many years of testing experience
Minimum of 3 years experience in a role that has required leadership and supervision within a Laboratory environment
Experience and knowledge in the applications of Quality Systems
Excellent administration and organizational skills
Solid Microsoft office skills – word, excel and power point
Excellent communication skills and strong customer focus
Demonstrated problem solving and negotiation skills
Strong Team Building, Leadership attributes
