Our client is a well known Government Science and Technology agency undertaking leading edge research delivering scientific services and providing specialised advice to government, industry, academia and other research organisations .



Based in Melbourne, this is a fixed term tenure of four years with benefits of annual leave and 15.4% super. This role will be reviewed for potential extension by agreement with both parties after the four year term. This presents the perfect scenario for professionals to work for a key government authority.

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for fabrication, installation and maintenance of mechanical systems to support accelerator and beamline equipment, in order to facilitate science and research & development.

This includes:

  • To maintain mechanical systems and support the testing of (mechanical) technical equipment to ensure that new and existing mechanical systems are operating effectively
  • Fabrication of specialised mechanical equipment to ensure efficient integration and operation of accelerator and beamlines.
  • Identify, source and procure materials, spares and tooling to ensure continuous running of mechanical systems and service materials in the facility



To be successful in your application, you need to meet the following criteria:


  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • A trade technical qualification in a Mechanical field or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 – 5 years demonstrated practical experience
  • Sound computers skills, including MS Office products
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Demonstrated capacity to problem solve and use initiative
  • Working independently or as part of a team
  • Good time management and communication skills
  • High attention to detail


  • Practical experience as a technician in a complex industrial or scientific environment.
  • Dogman License
  • Forklift License
  • Experience in working with complex systems
  • Risk assessment
