THE ROLE

Power and Energy Systems Group within the Maritime Division requires an individual who has proven experience with Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements on large format electrochemical cells.

This is a full-time, fixed-term tenure role that will ideally commence in July 2020 and is initially for 3 years, with a provision for two options to extend for up to 12 months each. Some of the tasks associated with this role include:

  • Undertaking Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements on large format electrochemical cells, modules and packs;
  • Analysis and management of data from cycling and storage tests, and EIS on large format electrochemical cells, modules and packs;
  • Operation of isothermal adiabatic and accelerating rate calorimeter;
  • Assist in developing/implementing predictive models of cell performance and ageing;
  • Perform safe disassembly of large-format electrochemical cells;
  • Undertake structural and chemical analysis of electrode materials;
  • Operation/calibration of gas and x-ray analysis for battery safety tests;
  • Safe handling/storage, connection/disconnection of large format Li-ion batteries;
  • Programming and running/calibrating battery cyclers for cycle tests;
  • Supervision of cycling tests; and
  • Preparation of reports when required.

The nature of this work shall require successful candidates to undergo security vetting to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.

Additionally, eligible applicants shall also need to address CS Executive Group’s selection criteria:

  • A degree in Chemistry or a relevant scientific discipline, as well as proven hands-on experience;
  • Experience with Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), analysis and interpretation of data obtained from long-term cycling and storage tests, safe handling/storage (connection/disconnection), operation/programming of battery cyclers for long-term cycling testing, safe disassembly, X-ray analysis, adiabatic isothermal calorimetry of large format Li-ion cells;
  • Experience with structural and chemical analysis of electrode materials;
  • Understanding of general principles of gas analysis by Fourier Transformed Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy;
  • Experience writing technical reports; and
  • MUST be willing to obtain an AGSVA security clearance to the level of Negative Vetting Level 1.
