Our client is an integral part of the Asia Pacific Division of a global specialty chemicals company. They solve problems within the construction industry with a vast product range of surface coating and protective chemicals. To deliver the next phase of business growth, they are looking to invest in a suitably tertiary qualified person to build depth in chemistry and material science, to support the provision of exemplary customer service with factual, pragmatic technical solutions. With a manufacturing plant near Geelong, the local business is supporting customers throughout Australia & New Zealand and parts of Asia.



Due to internal movement, a rare and exciting opportunity has arisen in our client’s Technical Group based near Geelong for a scientific & technical specialist. The key functions of this role are contributing to the growth and support of the Construction Chemicals business, by partnering with the commercial team and regional customers in solving technical challenges. This will be achieved by identifying new applications for existing or new products based upon a good understanding of various construction practices and the challenges that the customers face.

Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with customers to provide technical support and advice with the existing range
  • Identify new applications for existing products and the scientific understanding to promote the benefits of using them to address challenges
  • Work closely with regional customers to understand their challenges, and then work with regional and global technical experts to solve them
  • Drive competitive benchmark analysis, document and update results to regional technical and commercial team on an ongoing basis
  • Some laboratory testing for problem screening on the bench when appropriate



To be considered for this role, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A Masters or PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or Materials Science
  • The ideal candidate will have at least two years work experience in a technical role within the construction industry, including knowledge of ANZ standards and testing methods
  • Must be commercially aware and able to demonstrate an understanding  of the need for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and customer care
  • Key to this role will be your flexible “can do” attitude, excellent work ethic, and initiative whilst working autonomously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and report writing skills
  • Experience working directly with customers and external organisations
  • You must be a lateral and innovative thinker with a strong practical ability and exceptional problem-solving skills
  • You will possess excellent time management skills, high attention to detail and a strong ability to multi-task
  • Ability to undertake occasional domestic and international travel within APAC
  • A full driving licence
