Our client, Food and Nutrition Science and Technology Capability, a Division of the Department of Defence is based in beautiful Tasmania and boasts state of the art facilities including R&D and Manufacturing.
The Food and Nutrition Science and Technology Capability (FNSTC) within the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group provides Defence with science and technology (S&T) advice and research in support of Defence fresh and combat ration feeding systems. It also manufactures a range of specialised foods for use in combat ration packs. Due to the amount of work available, they are in need of two Laboratory Technicians to join their Food Science team .
This role is part-time and will require the successful candidates to work 3 days per week with the flexibility to work up to five if needed. It is initially a three year contract, up to 2019 that may be extended for a further two periods of 12 months.
With tertiary qualifications, Diploma up to Bachelors Degree with Honours, you will need to conduct testing of various food products, provide technical support relating to general laboratory safety, housekeeping and assist with the quality assurance of ration pack components (food and packaging).

The successful candidate must be flexible and willing to work on a range of activities in order that the work program is achieved both effectively and efficiently. The work force is small but a diverse range of work is performed.
You must be self-motivated to ensure efficient use of time. You will be willing to work within a team environment with varying degrees of individual effort depending on the task at hand.
A willingness to share knowledge and provide support to other team members is an important element of the job.
