Our client, operates a drug testing laboratory which specializes in the detection of drugs and related substances in biological fluids such as blood and urine. It also provides a drug testing service to industry in the areas of human workplace and OH&S. Due to growth, this busy Consulting Laboratory, is looking to employ an experienced and enthusiastic Laboratory Technician on a permanent basis.
The role of the Laboratory Technician is to assist in specimen reception, carry out routine drug screening of biological samples for clients and to provide technical support to Analytical Chemists.
We are looking for person with initiative, a keen eye for detail, who has excellent time management, multi-tasking and communication skills, is a team player and is ready for their next career challenge.
Some of your duties will include:
Routine drug screening
Aliquoting of biological samples for routine drug screening methods
Preparing biological samples for automated SPE extraction workstations and processing resulting extracts for GCMS and LCMS analysis by the Analytical Chemists
TCO2 analysis of equine blood samples using ion-selective electrode based instrumentation
Performing ELISA assays on biological samples using both manual and automated techniques
General routine laboratory duties such as preparation of reagents and calibration/monitoring of laboratory equipment
Liaising and working closely with other team members to ensure all work is completed accurately and efficiently
To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:
Certificate or Diploma qualifications in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunology, Pathology or similar would be preferred
Must have at least a few years’ experience working in a similar laboratory setting.
Have experience with sample receipt, basic sample and media preparation,
Experience with SPE methods and immunoassay techniques (ELISAs) would be highly advantageous.
Good computer literacy is essential.
Experience with LIMS highly advantageous but not mandatory.
Able to multi-task and manage your time well.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or individually under general direction.
Be adaptable and flexible to deal with a varying work load.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Great work ethic, reliability and a good eye for detail are essential for this busy role.
