ROLE

As the Laboratory Manager, you will be directly responsible for ensuring that the financial, operational and service objectives are met to support the vision & strategic plans of the business.

As this is a new facility, the successful candidate will be involved with the sourcing of space with assistance, construction, development and set up (layout and workflow) of an operational coal testing Laboratory, including procurement, implementation and commissioning of equipment as well as recruitment and training of staff.

Other duties associated with this role include:

  • Annual planning and comprehensive management of the lab including activities related to human resources, finance and purchase approvals;
  • Achieving relevant operating accreditations, e.g. ISO17025, CNAS, etc
  • Checking and issuing test reports and outsources results;
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of new business analysis initiatives to meet company business goals and objectives;
  • Responsible for the quality system, its construction, execution, maintenance, improvement and auditing, ensuring compliance to all GLP, Quality and EH&S systems;
  • Responsible for quality control plans and their implementation, comparison of abilities and verifications;
  • Responsible for standardized management of materials;
  • Responsible for test standards and methods, their verification, improvement, authorization, and formulation of non-standardized methods;
  • Managing and achieving annual expense budget;
  • Assisting with marketing.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be successful in your application, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary degree or higher in Chemistry or similar scientific discipline;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a management role within a Commercial or Coal Laboratory environment;
  • Operational experience with coal testing equipment
  • Proven track record in setting up a new laboratory is highly desirable;
  • Experience in developing detailed budget and business plans;
  • Experience and knowledge in the applications of Quality Systems (ISO 17025).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (oral, written & listening);
  • Strong computer skills including LIMS;
  • Strong sense and ability of market development;
  • Full work rights in Australia.
