This entry level position is based in Regional Victoria, less than 100kms from Metropolitan Melbourne.

We are looking for someone with a one or more years of laboratory experience that has excellent time management and communication skills that wants to be trained.

You must be well organised, have a mature approach, a good work ethic and initiative. Reporting to the Foods Safety & Risk Manager, you will be managing the outsourcing of testing to external laboratories, provide reports for testing carried out and trend results to identify emerging issues to key stakeholders within the business.

Some of the duties associated with this role include:

  • Oversee one Laboratory Assistant who conducts very simple testing
  • Manage purchasing of laboratory consumables
  • Manage storage of data from internal and external testing and ensure that records are kept up to date
  • Assist in the development of sampling plans for testing
  • Maintain and update shelf life testing plans and product collection for customer shelf life testing
  • Co-ordinate submission of samples to external laboratories for testing
  • Report out of specification results, trend lab results and identify emerging issues to appropriate personnel
  • Contribute to and ensure safe practices within own working environment
  • Ensure that SDSs for laboratory chemicals are current

The successful candidate must be decisive and confident, able to work with cross functional teams and people at all levels.

To be successful in your application you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a scientific field
  • You will have one or more years experience working in a laboratory – food or chemicals manufacturing environment would be highly regarded
  • Exposure to quality standards especially HACCP or similar preferred but not necessary
  • Must have good eye for detail and an appreciation for safety in the work place
  • Excellent communication skills – you will be liaising with personnel of all levels of the company
  • MUST be a good team player and reliable!
  • You must be flexible in your approach and able to cope with changes in priorities
  • High level of self-motivation and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to exercise individual judgement and initiative in the application of scientific principles, techniques and methods
  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and a strong ability to multi-task
  • Key to this role will be your flexible “can do” attitude, excellent work ethic and initiative whilst working autonomously or as part of a team
  • The ability to work professionally and build relationships at all levels internally and externally
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills ensuring appropriate actions are taken in a timely manner. You will be decisive with a sense of urgency in driving issues to closure
  • Good work ethic, strong presentation skills and a good team player who is also able to work autonomously
