Following a review of resourcing needs, an additional role has been created for an experienced Laboratory and Facilities Supervisor. Reporting to its two Research Managers, the successful candidate will be a strong communicator with a positive, can-do attitude and a strong technical background. You will be flexible, hands-on and a good team-player. You will ensure that the laboratories and facilities are running smoothly in line with business needs.
Some of the other responsibilities of the role include:
Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders to facilitate and organise all laboratory and facility projects, equipment maintenance and any “onsite” maintenance issues
Ensure that laboratories and facilities comply with health and safety requirements and develop and execute health and safety plans in workplace according to legal guidelines
Propagate OH&S awareness by preparing and enforcing health and safety policies
Facilitate and chair OH&S committee meetings
Maintain safety database register and safety documentation
Act as a Chief Fire Warden
Liaise with Radiation Awareness Officer to ensure yearly radiation audit is conducted
Complete regular OH&S risk reporting
Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes for laboratory supplies including chemicals, laboratory equipment and services
Review and initiate improvements to streamline the receipt, storage and handling, inventory and payment processes for laboratory supplies and other laboratory systems
Co-ordinate shipping and despatch of local, national and overseas samples and compounds
To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:
Bachelor of Science or equivalent (preferably Chemistry or other science-related discipline)
Experience in OH&S management
Experience working in a laboratory environment including a good understanding of safety standards
Experience with handling and storage of dangerous goods
Ideally prior experience with local and international shipping and despatch of samples/compounds
Ability to commence work at 8 am in order to receive deliveries and meet and direct service providers
Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
Highly organised, flexible, resilient and with an enthusiasm for acquiring new skills
Excellent communication skills including report writing skills
Excellent level of computer literacy
