CLIENT

Our client is a leading manufacturer and supplier of bitumen based products, providing customers with asphalt, blended binders and emulsion products. They are a listed company and employ more than 18,000 people. They continue to invest in state-of-the-art technology such as asphalt plants that use more recycled products and substantially less energy.

 

POSITION

Due to growth and staff movement, our client has two, maybe three vacancies in their Research and Development Infrastructure Services Centre in Melbourne’s Northern Suburbs.

Both vacancies are full-time contracts through CS Executive Group so you will be required to work 37.5 hour weeks, Monday to Friday. One of the contracts will be short term, approximately two months and the other is ongoing.

The roles will involve the testing of Asphalt, Quarry aggregate, sand and other raw materials either made in the laboratory or received for Quality Control to determine various properties.

Some of the tests include:

  • Determination of air voids through testing the maximum density and bulk density
  • Percentage of bitumen and particle size distribution by solvent extraction under pressure and indirect modulus test with the use of a UTM
  • Making cores of asphalt using a gyro compacter to determine desired air voids
  • Testing of asphalt sites to assess level of compaction
  • Performance testing of asphalt as part of improvement initiatives
  • Assisting in the designing of asphalt mixes
  • Compiling, checking and inputing of daily test results onto the database to generate reports
  • Monitoring and auditing raw material compliance by suppliers to internal and external specifications
  • Complying with NATA requirements

 

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for chemists or engineers, either graduates or with a few years experience who are interested in R&D, QC and are not afraid to get their hands dirty!

If this is you and wish to apply, please read our requirements below:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry, Materials Engineering or similar
  • Experience having worked in an industrial laboratory associated with chemical manufacturing or construction materials such as polymers, oils, bitumen, asphalt, etc will be highly regarded but not essential
  • Excellent report writing skills and computer literacy in English
  • Must have a good eye for detail and an appreciation for safety in the work place
  • Excellent communication skills – you will be liaising with personnel of all levels of the company
  • Good time management skills and the ability to multi task
  • MUST be a good team player and reliable!
  • As these are contract roles, preference will be given to candidates based in Melbourne
