Our client, a multinational, high profile company, is a leading provider of polyurethane solutions. Servicing the adhesives, coatings and elastomers market, they are a company of choice for developing tailor-made solutions. From heavy duty coatings, to adhesives and sealants for packaging, manufacturing and flooring applications, our client can provide adhesive, coating and elastomer formulations with access to an extensive family of off-the-shelf and customisable polyurethane raw materials, components and system solutions.

 

ROLE

Due to internal movement, this is a rare opportunity for a practical Graduate Chemist/Scientist with a polymer/organic background to join our client on a full-time permanent basis.

The main objective of this position is to develop polyurethane solutions to meet ACE (Adhesives, Coatings, Elastomers) customer needs. Working seamlessly with the ACE business team, the successful candidate will contribute through product development, technical support and technical service activities, profitable growth and continuous diversification of ACE business.

We are looking for a graduate chemist that has excellent communication skills, a great work ethic and is a team player. Someone that can think outside the box and does not mind being hands-on!

Reporting to the Technical Service Manager, you will contribute to building excellent working relationships with all customers, external and internal. In time, you will be able to provide support and recommend changes to enhance manufacturing efficiencies.

Some of the duties associated with this role include:

  • Effective tailoring of customised products and services as appropriate to suit key customers’ particular application conditions.
  • Arranging optimum product development paths, utilising available resources where possible.
  • Assessment of trial and finished products using various physical testing equipment and instrumentation.
  • Planning, in conjunction with the  ACE Sales Manager and Technical Manager, technical service visits to customers.
  • Ensuring that the provision of samples and the conduct of trials are carried out safely and cost effectively.
  • Ensuring technical best practice is adopted in manufacturing.
  • Liaising with raw material suppliers and setting specifications.
  • Ensuring adequate training of sales and customers.
  • Ensuring that costs are contained within budget and forecast.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this amazing opportunity, you will need to meet to following criteria:

  • Bachelors degree as a minimum in Organic Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Applied Chemistry or similar.
  • Masters and Honours students from relevant disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Some understanding and Industry experience working within one or more of the fields of adhesives, coatings, and/or elastomers.
  • Solid practical laboratory skills with a good mechanical aptitude and hands-on approach with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Ethical and a true team player you will have the ability to work autonomously and as part of a broader team as needed.
  • Formulating experience as well as reaction chemistry experience within an Industrial framework. Experience within the adhesives/coatings industry would be highly regarded.
  • You must be able to manage a variable workload and the organisational skills to prioritise and focus on goals. You will be used to setting priorities and coordinating projects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship development skills necessary to deal with internal and external customers. You will be dealing with team members across different cultures, customers, suppliers, operations and other business personnel across a broad spectrum of seniority positions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as you will be dealing directly with clients and colleagues
