COMPANY

Our client, Food and Nutrition Science and Technology Capability, a Division of the Department of Defence is based in beautiful Tasmania and boasts state of the art facilities including R&D and Manufacturing.

The Food and Nutrition Science and Technology Capability (FNSTC) within the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group provides Defence with science and technology (S&T) advice and research in support of Defence fresh and combat ration feeding systems. It also manufactures a range of specialised foods for use in combat ration packs. Due to the amount of work available, they are in need of a part-time Quality Assurance Professional to join their Food Science team.

 

THE ROLE

Closing Date for Applications Wednesday 8th of May!

This role is part-time and will require the successful candidate to work 22.5 hours per week for a period of eight months until early 2020. Any contract extension beyond this will depend upon production requirements.  

As the Food Safety Program Operator, the successful candidate will be a member of the Manufacturing Group. Some of the duties associated with this role include:

  • Make a substantial contribution to the operation and maintenance of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety program;
  • Assisting with the coordination of internal and external audits of the Defence food safety plans;
  • Maintaining and updating documentation and database management;
  • Providing assistance and support to the food production coordinator and food processing researchers with procurement, quality assurance and export documentation activities;
  • Maintaining risk assessments, safety data sheets and coordinating workplace inspections;
  • Participating in food evaluation (sensory/taste panel) activities (voluntary basis);
  • Supporting workplace health and safety;
  • Being flexible and willing to work on a range of activities.

To be considered for this position you must meet the following criteria:

  • You MUST BE an Australian citizen! PR IS NOT SUFFICIENT!
  • Have a Diploma or a Bachelor of Food Science or similar
  • Experience working in a QA role within Food production environment
  • Previously prepared HACCP plans, conducted internal and external audits and managed food safety programs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or individually under general direction.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to complete tasks on time.
  • Competence in the use of computers and computer software, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, for the purposes of recording data and updating laboratory records.
  • Ability to operate computer controlled laboratory equipment.
  • Be willing to undergo an extensive background security check
