This exciting permanent full-time position is based in Regional Victoria, less than 130km from Metropolitan Melbourne. Reporting to the Head of Quality, the successful candidate will ensure the method of manufacture and product formulations do not compromise Food Safety. With five direct reports, the successful candidate will champion Food Safety by keeping up to date with local, national, and international trends.

This is a very large, complex and fast-paced operation and requires a Manager who is passionate about food manufacturing with a big focus on Quality, Food Safety, and Risk Management.  Decisive and confident, you will be able to work with cross-functional teams and liaise with Quality, NPD, Technical and Production, to ensure all Food Safety concerns are addressed appropriately. You will have strong leadership qualities and the ability to build credibility and trust by fostering open communication.

We are looking for an inspirational leader who can build, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team, maintain the highest quality and safety standards and forge strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.  This key role will ensure the continued success of the business through collaborative working and influencing across many departments.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Maintain, verify and amend the plant food safety program as necessary
  • Plan, organise, direct control and evaluate activities related to the food safety program
  • Handle all food safety concerns, review exiting policies and drive continuous improvement
  • Manage audit closeouts where relevant and conduct root cause analysis for site failures
  • Troubleshoot Food Safety concerns and ensure corrective actions are appropriately taken in a timely manner
  • Manage site testing procedures, including hygiene monitoring programs
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs for food safety
  • Keep abreast of local and overseas Food Safety trends ensuring communication within the business
  • Manage Listeria Control Program



To be successful in your application you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Food Microbiology or similar. Additional qualifications in Food Safety and Risk Management will be highly regarded.
  • Many years of experience working in a food manufacturing environment involved in Food Safety activities preferably in chilled processed foods, poultry, meat, seafood or similar.
  • Several years’ experience in supervisory/management roles.
  • Proven technical capabilities and experience working/leading cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record in driving business performance is essential. Must be able to demonstrate achievements in managing a Listeria Control Program.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of driving sustainable organisational performance improvement through effective leadership, change management and continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication and relationship building skills to influence a range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Well established Food Safety troubleshooting skills and capacity. You will be decisive with a sense of urgency in driving issues to closure.
  • Experience in championing continuous improvement and change management.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
