THE CLIENT

Our client is the national government organisation for nuclear science and technology focusing  on undertaking leading edge research, delivering innovative scientific services and providing specialised advice to government, industry, academia and other research organisations.

The Business Unit we are representing, Synroc – Chemical Process Engineering, has been given the challenge of developing markets for wasteform science and processing technology and develops tailored solutions for nuclear wastes and the development of engineering designs and solutions for waste processing plants and equipment within the organisation and for international clients.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Based in a beautiful suburb, South-West of Sydney, this is a  12 Month Fixed Term Tenure with the view of going permanent. The role attracts paid annual leave, sick leave and paid public holidays as well as 15.4% super. 

The Electrical Control Systems Technician is to deliver quality electrical support services (design, assembly, installation & maintenance) within Synroc to ensure that instrumental systems and ancillary equipment is in safe working order for the Synroc Technology demonstration plant and to ensure that equipment operates effectively and complies with relevant standards.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Independently and without direct supervision or instruction install, program, test, maintain and repair/troubleshoot a variety of electrical/electronic equipment and control systems.
  • Responsible for inputs and interfaces to the control systems ensuring they are robust, reliable and documented.
  • Investigate, identify and provide solutions for technical problems in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Use independent judgement and liaise with other disciplines to understand and solve complex technical problems.
  • Manage equipment through an asset management framework and improvement program
  • Assess and provide feedback to management on equipment performance and processes to drive improvements in equipment availability, safety and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the design and development of prototypes, upgrades and modifications and contribute to test plans, factory acceptance testing including provision of technical expertise and writing acceptance testing reports and procedures.
  • Train others on operation, maintenance, processes and procedures.
  • Assist in the task supervision of new technical staff, contractors and clients.
  • Produce and review work method statements on non-routine tasks

 

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for this opportunity you must be willing to undergo appropriate federal government clearance and shall also need to address the following criteria: –

  • Electrical / electronic engineering diploma (desirable) or equivalent relevant experience in a similar, highly regulated environment coupled with electrical/electronic trade qualification.
  • Extensive knowledge and significant experience maintaining complex instruments, components, systems and ancillary equipment and solving technical issues associated with the electrical maintenance of equipment or plant.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, programming, testing, maintaining, repairing/troubleshooting specialised electrical/electronic equipment and systems e.g. motion control, PLC, connectors, cable chains, cabling and positioning or other relevant control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to read/interpret plans and drawings, read electrical design schematics and demonstrated ability to build, test, integrate and commission electrical control panels.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated industrial/operational environment. Ability to follow instruction, procedures and policies in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Sound computer skills with ability to operate SAP and MS office products to enable completion of activities.
