Our client is an agency in the portfolio of the Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management.  It was established in 1993 to centralise the registration of all agricultural and veterinary chemical (agvet) products into the Australian marketplace.

This agency is responsible for the assessment of the human safety and trade risk aspects of applications for the registration of agricultural and veterinary chemical products, approval of permits to use a chemical for a specific purpose, or the review of an existing chemical product and its uses.



Based in picturesque Armidale in regional NSW, this role can be offered under various employment options, ideally as a permanent ongoing position, or on a fixed-term tenure of three or four years.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director People and Governance leads the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority’s (APVMA) human resources, learning and development, and corporate risk management functions.

The position will be responsible for driving organisational performance and developing organisational capability, and provide high level strategic advice on functional activities relating to employee services, employee relations, workplace health and safety.


To be successful in your application, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or significant demonstrated experience in business, human resources or risk management.
  • Demonstrated high-level written communication skills, including the ability to consider inputs from a range of sources to prepare documents, briefs, and ministerial correspondence on complex matters for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing and establishing priorities and outcomes across teams, through the effective use of project management, monitoring, liaison and reporting skills.
  • Superior people and negotiation skills and the ability to work collegiately with a broad range of stakeholders from industry, government, and the wider community.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills in a regulatory setting, with the ability to evaluate, provide pragmatic advice, dealing with potentially sensitive issues with diplomacy and make decisions on complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and review risk to provide proactive advice, responsive to changing environments.
  • High-level communication and influencing skills with the ability to build trust through active listening & open and honest communication.
