Our client is a leading and well known lubricants Company that has about 5,000 employees across 60 business units around the world. They produce locally in Australia and distribute a high quality range of products to a variety of industrial and retail clients.



Due to an ever increasing demand for their products, our client is seeking to add a Development Chemist to their R&D group for a 12 month contract position. This position will be based at the Company’s Melbourne facility, which incorporates a manufacturing plant and a technical group across QA, QC and Research & Development. The core role will be assisting the R&D team to develop and deliver formulations in line with customer expectations, including commissioning and verification in the manufacturing plant. You will be working in an experienced R&D team, and reporting to the R&D Manager, so industry specific training will be given to the chosen candidate.

The successful candidate will have product development experience, from the wider Chemicals manufacturing industry, and be well versed in conducting a range of activities across multiple projects, therefore be a well organised person with high attention to detail.



  • Develop products for both internal and external customers
  • Assist in the investigation and implementation of process and cost improvement measures
  • Maintain and develop existing relationships with suppliers
  • Provide technical expertise to both internal and external customers, including customer related problems associated with product reformulations and introduction of new product
  • Maintain product development records, formulations, manufacturing instructions and quality control specifications
  • Perform all necessary analysis and adjustments required to ensure new formulations are are verified and implemented for manufacture
  • Coordinate technical service testing when required including preparation and issuing reports
  • Ensure laboratory is kept clean, tidy and is a safe working environment



To be successful in your application, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A degree or higher in Science with a major in Chemistry or similar 
  • Three to five years’ experience in a Product Development role, ideally in a value-add industrial chemicals industry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or individually under general direction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to meet goals, targets and deadlines, within a portfolio of active projects – a demonstrated self-starter with strong organisation skills
  • A good work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills and a good team player
  • Must have full working rights (Working Holiday VISAs are not suitable)
