CLIENT

Our Client, a well-known organisation with an extensive research facility based in Adelaide, is currently looking for an Experimental Physicist or Mechanical Engineer with experience working with projectiles and their impacts. Initially a 10 month Contract, with an option to extend for a further two years.

 

ROLE

This role will investigate the propagation of a spark to initiate fire, exploring the conditions under which fires start, studying target and impact sites during and after impacts as well as Health and Safety. As the successful applicant, you will have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Experimental Physics or similar and experience working on research projects in a relevant discipline

Primarily based in the laboratory this role requires an individual who can apply their knowledge of relevant theory, develop methodology and tools to study physical interactions, design and carry out key experiments, generate and collect data, analyse results and report the outcomes. Knowledge of gas guns, digital high speed video, Hopkinson Bar, drawing programs, strain gauges, VISAR, VIC 3D and propellant guns would be beneficial to this role.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Experimental Physics or relevant discipline
  • Have experience working with or studying explosives, gas guns, propellant guns or similar; and the outcomes of relevant target materials.
  • Experience in the design of and testing phases of experimental equipment
  • Ability to maintain and operate high speed and high pressure equipment is a must!
  • Knowledge of and experience using diagnostic equipment
  • Experience operating strain gauges, high speed digital video, VISAR, VIC 3D and velocity interferometer highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of OH&S and its implications with the work to be carried out
  • Computer skills such as the use of programs such as Stereoscopic Visualisation Software and Solid Edge would be highly desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or individually under general direction
  • Due to the technical nature of this role, you must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to produce results in a set time frame
  • Must be an Australian Citizen!
  • You will be required to undertake vigorous background and security tests
