CLIENT

Our client is an Australian government statutory authority based in Canberra. It applies scientific expertise to evaluate and register all pesticides and veterinary medicines, support Australian agricultural and livestock industries and protect the health and safety of people, animals, the environment and Australia’s overseas trade.

 

THE ROLE

Our client has undergone an Independent Review and has accepted all recommendations. Work is underway to implement immediate priorities, working towards the future state and improved performance including:

  • better use of legislative instruments
  • exploring earlier rejections of poor quality submissions
  • improved management of backlogs
  • lowering sign off of decisions to assessment teams

As this presents an extra workload, our client is seeking to employ on contract, a Manager with experience in project management, process improvement and excellent writing skills. Working together with subject matter experts, this person will ensure that all recommendations are implemented by the end of June 2019. This role will be assisted by extra resources such as project officers.

The position will be at an EL1 or EL2 level depending on experience and qualifications and will be based in Canberra.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

We are looking for an experienced manager who can manage projects, deal with internal processes that have an element of policy associated with them and has the ability to understand the role of this regulatory government body.

Knowledge of the science and the regulatory requirements enforced by this agency would be extremely beneficial but not a must.

Other requirements for this role include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field. Project management and science qualifications  would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing projects
  • Ability to make decisions, capacity to confidently work with various stakeholders and meet deadlines
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to determine workflow priorities and assume responsibility for delivery of organisational goals
  • Highly developed critical thinking, analysis, discretion and change management skills to maintain focus on achieving key organisational outcomes
  • A high level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills that can be applied to the preparation of a range of written documents and reports as needed
  • Work rights in Australia but you are NOT required to be a citizen. You must also be willing to undergo a police check.
  • Must be available to commence employment with reasonable notice and work full-time hours Monday to Friday, through to June 2019
