Our client is an Australian-owned contract research and consulting laboratory located in the Lower North Shore area of Sydney. Their business delivers high-quality analytical laboratory services to clients across a range of industries, which are related to pharmaceuticals.
The close-knit team covers the end-to-end process from sample receipt, through preparation and analysis, and culminating in the delivery of a formal report of the laboratory’s results. This will require someone who is hands-on with sample preparation and also readily able to adapt to meet the demands of working within a customer-centric company delivering services within its niche areas of expertise.
Due to business growth, our client is looking for an Analytical Operations Manager; and, aligned with the company, someone able to facilitate the delivery of high-quality analytical services to its growing customer base—your contributions to the team will be meaningful from Day 1.
The principal activities associated with this exciting role include: –
Develop, optimise, and validate sound chromatographic methods that ensure utmost compliance with the client’s defined requirements;
Perform chemical analyses of pharmaceuticals (and other related samples), which includes physical and wet chemistry tests;
Take ownership of assigned projects from receipt of the customer’s sample through to reporting of the results, as well as addressing any issues that arise;
Maintain the ongoing compliance of the activities undertaken within the Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory with the principles of GMP &GLP;
Issue value-added reports, which satisfy customers’ expectations of a specialist consultant;
Assist in the mentoring of analytical laboratory staff and their professional development ;
Manage the laboratory operation and laboratory staff;
Keep all records in accordance with the requirements of relevant regulatory bodies (e.g., TGA); and
Support the integration of new business by actively improving the analytical capabilities of the company.
The above is not a comprehensive list, as the dynamic nature of this boutique consultancy shall require adaptability and a passion for the scientific services it provides.
Bachelor degree, preferably in chemistry or pharmaceutical science;
Highly proficient in the use of HPLC/UPLC, which includes experience with method development and validation, ideally with pharma/GMP/QA experience;
Familiarity with using chromatography data systems (i.e., Empower™ & Chromeleon™) to operate laboratory instrumentation;
Demonstratable competency to undertake sample preparation, as this is a critical process prior to any subsequent analysis using HPLC;
Proficiency with MS Excel & Word is a prerequisite;
Prior experience with LC-MS/MS use and method development will be highly regarded;
Experience with meeting TGA requirements, ideally including participation in prior audits, is highly desirable;
Proven capacity to make responsible decisions on assigned matters and also the ability to consult, recommend, and advise in speciality scientific areas;
Capability to troubleshoot and solve problems that can and do arise within a busy analytical laboratory;
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills are of paramount importance to this role; and
Well-developed interpersonal skills, especially those honed from prior responsibility for supervision of a small team, shall be well regarded.
