COMPANY

Our client, a well known government agency based in Melbourne, is currently looking for an Analytical Chemist, with strong chemistry skills to work in propellant degradation chemistry.

 

THE ROLE

With tertiary qualifications up to the level of PhD, you will need to provide technical support researching gun propellant degradation chemistry and gun propellant service life extension.

In summary your duties will involve the provision of technical and professional support in the following areas:

  • Assist with carrying out nitrocellulose based gun and rocked propellant analysis
  • Analyse of the safe storage life extensions of gun propellants and ordnance
  • Troubleshoot instruments and maintain instrument records- HPLC, GC etc
  • Ensure laboratory is stocked with consumables
  • Interpret analytical data and ensure compliance of documentation
  • Work independently and within a team.
  • Assist with general laboratory duties

*You must be willing to work with hazardous chemicals and undertake an extensive background security check.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this position you must meet the following criteria:

  • You MUST BE an Australian Citizen! PR IS NOT SUFFICIENT
  • Have tertiary qualifications in Analytical Chemistry
  • Several years experience working within a Laboratory Environment
  • You must have experience using: HPLC, GC and GPC
  • Experience with Thermal Instruments such as Microcalorimeter (thermal activity monitor, TAM) etc would be highly regarded
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals and working under NATA accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025) would be highly regarded
  • Excellent high level wet chemistry laboratory skills
  • Experience and understanding of QA/QC
  • Experience working in an environment with explosives would be highly regarded
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or individually under general direction.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to complete tasks on time.
