Our client is listed on the ASX and SGX and is a specialist provider of asset intelligence services and metering solutions for essential electrical, gas and water infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region. One arm of this multinational business, provides  comprehensive oil and gas chemical testing services covering a wide variety of both routine and non-routine analyses.

Our client prides themselves on innovation, setting high industry standards and collaborating with their clients to exceed their expectations. Due to the demand for their services, they are seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to join their Laboratories in Melbourne on a 12 month contract base with a strong view to permanency.



Our client has been undertaking chemical analysis for the utility and manufacturing industries for over 60 years and they place great stock in the integrity of their historical asset database. This history and their independence make them a leader in their field when it comes to analytical experience and the interpretation of test results.

The person in this role will be responsible for the chemical and electrical analyses of insulating media from a variety of sources and associated equipment.

The key responsibilities of this role will involve following:

  • Quality Control of products
  • Use of GC – Head Space
  • Testing of insulating oils using UPLC
  • Physical testing of products such as oil colour and appearance
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of new test methodologies
  • Calibrating and maintaining equipment as necessary to ensure quality accreditation standards.
  • Providing accurate and timely data reports for analysis by various stakeholders
  • Ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with the relevant quality, workplace safety and test standards, including the application of all relevant MSDS’s

In-order to qualify for this exciting and rare opportunity, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A Science Degree majoring in Applied or Analytical Chemistry or similar
  • Two years of experience as an Analytical Chemist in a quality focused testing laboratory
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as GC and UPLC
  • Experience with Waters Empower software
  • Proven experience with wet-chemistry and physical testing
  • Must have good eye for detail and an appreciation for safety in the work place
  • Excellent communication skills – you will be liaising with personnel of all levels of the company
  • MUST be a good team player and reliable!
  • You must be flexible in your approach and able to cope with changes in priorities.
  • High level of self-motivation and problem-solving capabillity
  • Ability to exercise individual judgement and initiative in the application of scientific principles, techniques and methods
  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and a strong ability to multi-task.
  • Key to this role will be your flexible “can do” attitude, excellent work ethic and initiative whilst working autonomously or as part of a team
