COMPANY

Our client, a well known government agency based in Melbourne, is currently looking for an Analytical Chemist, with strong chemistry skills to work in Hazard Management.

 

THE ROLE

With tertiary qualifications up to the level of PhD, you will need to provide technical support assessing the effectiveness of decontamination products and well as investigate toxic industrial chemicals and chemical warfare agents.

In summary your duties will involve the provision of technical and professional support in the following areas:

  • Assist with assessing mixtures and solutions, using GC/MS, LC/MS, NMR, extraction techniques and general wet chemistry.
  • Assess decontaminants, and chemical detectors
  • Be trained to handle highly toxic materials
  • Use of Vapour Generators and Mass Spec to assess chemicals
  • Help to develop chemical detectors
  • Help to formulate and test new decontamination solutions
  • Assist with general laboratory duties

*You must be willing to wear a full face respirator and undertake an extensive background security check.

This is a contract is initially for 12 months and is expected to be extended for a further 2 years.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this position you must meet the following criteria:

  • You MUST BE an Australian Citizen! PR IS NOT SUFFICIENT
  • Have tertiary qualifications such as a PhD or lower – degree minimum.
  • Several years experience working within a Laboratory Environment
  • Excellent analytical chemistry skills especially in GC/MS, LC/MS and NMR
  • Excellent high level wet chemistry laboratory skills and extraction techniques
  • Experience working with toxic chemicals would be highly regarded
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member or individually under general direction.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to complete tasks on time.
